Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC) are communities that provide many levels of care including active living, assisted living, memory care and nursing homes. Housing options range from detached homes to nursing care rooms. These communities are equipped to provide assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as medication, bathing, eating, dressing, toileting and more as the residents needs grow over time.
Leisure/Active/Lifestyle Retirement Community (LORC) include various amenities. An LORC is a housing complex designed for seenagers who are generally able to care for themselves; however, assistance from home care agencies is allowed in some communities, and activities and socialization opportunities are often provided.
Independent Living Communities do not provide health care or assistance with ADLs. Independent senior living differ from CCRCs, which offer independent living along with multiple other levels of care, such as assisted living and skilled nursing, in one single residence.
Subsidized Housing for Lower Income Older Adults is catered towards seniors that can function independently.
Trailer Parks are senior only trailer parks where age restrictions may vary from 50+, 55+, 60+ or 65+. There may be some shared parks, BBQs, club house etc.
Assisted Living Facilities are generally in an apartment or condo style environment with tens to hundreds of residents. They include everything from housekeeping, dining, wellness activities, limited transportation, personal care and frequently includes medication management.
Memory Care Facilities are assisted living facilities that provide specialized care and a secured environment (sometimes with a delayed egress) for Seenagers with memory issues. Not all assisted care facilities have memory care. So if you foresee memory challenges with your Seenager at a later date, you may want to select a facility that has memory care too.
Room and Board are assisted living facilities that can accommodate 6-10 residents in a house like setting. These are generally family owned and operated.
Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) is where clinical care is available round the clock, and patient is in need of regular clinical care. When your Seenager requires this level of care insurance generally will pay for it. The level of care and number of days will depend on the insurance they have.
Except for Skilled Nursing Facilities all other options are out of pocket costs. However, even for skilled nursing all costs may not be covered by insurance. Assisted living costs can range from $3500 to $5000 per month, there maybe some local low income subsidies available to cover partial costs.
